Snow-Camp

SNO!zone will become a sponsor for the youth charity Snow-Camp in 2009.

Established back in 2003, Snow-Camp has gone from strength to strength as the only youth charity using a combination of snow sports and life-skills to work with disadvantaged young people.

The charity provides inner city youth with their first ever opportunity to experience snow sports, whether on their residential weeks in the French Alps or their summer programmes in the UK.

Five years ago the first Snow-Camp took just 7 young people from south London to Les 2 Alpes, and piloted the idea that snow-sports could be used as an innovative youth work tool to support disadvantaged young people - widening their horizons, giving them new skills and enabling them to develop as individuals. Sports Minister Gerry Sutcliffe sees huge potential in the project, commenting, ‘Using snow-sports to teach young people life-skills is what makes Snow-Camp such a fantastic project’.

This winter season, Snow-Camp will take 240 inner city young people away for their first experience of the mountains, teaching them to ski or snowboard and enabling them to learn about themselves, make positive decisions about their lives and realise their potential through the daily life-skills sessions.
