17/05/2008 - Tyler Harding - Fat Face Winner

Tyler won the U16 section at the Fat Face Night Ski

29/04/2008 – Simon Foster – Winter Shredding

Hey everyone.
I have just got back from Laax Switzerland competing in the Brits doing the big air and slope-style comps. Didn't do as well as I wanted to in big air but I was able to focus on trying to place in the slope-style event. Ended up coming 3rd in slope-style junior category and 9th overall.

Before the Brits i was out in America at Northstar filming with Chris Chatt, Ollie Plumly, Ryan Evans and the rest of the tea room crew for the new film “Bread and Butter” coming out in late November.

I also did a rail-jam at Boreal, just outside of Tahoe, and came 1st out of the 18 and above group. It was a sick event, even though we had to hike for 2 hours. I also got to shred with a couple of my favorite riders Lucas Magoon and Yan Dofin. I was stoked on that and they’re sound people.

Peace. Simon

29/04/2008 - Jeff Fozzard – Moguls update

We've had an exciting season this year.

As coach to Andy Longley and also acting as Great Britain Coach to the other members of the mogul squad (Martin Nankoo) we set off in January 2008 on a long and successful journey around Europe.

We took part in Europa Cup comps in;
FRANCE
GERMANY
SWITZERLAND

Our first comp was in Chatel and was a "Baptism of Fire" the 29 degree pitch made Xscape bumps look like a walk in the park. Andy lost a ski in the individuals, soon sorted and didn't happen again. In the duals he was much more successful.

We moved on to Megeve next and had some fantastic snow and both boys enjoyed the comps and did well.

From Megeve we moved to Bavaria, a hell of a journey, by train and car, we were picked up by the local constabulary of Bad Wiesee for walking on the street at 10pm.  Apparently we looked suspicious, after checking our passports and satisfied with our story we were allowed to go to our hotel for a well earned sleep. After this things looked up and we got back to skiing. Despite the low altitude the snow was good and we took part in four races.

From here we moved onto Engleberg, Switzerland our final comp, the French and Russian World Cup Mogul teams were here and showed us a thing or two, they also showed us how to get hurt. The higher you go off the airbump the more painful the landing, it's a good job the Doctor and Helicopter was there.

Having survived almost five weeks on the road we still were able to smile and all in all Andy averaged out in the top 25 of over 100 skiers, a great achievement in his first Europa Cup Races.

A word of warning to all you Aspiring racers, make sure you look after your equipment as it really brasses your coach off if they have to go back to the hotel to fetch bibs.

Next was the British Mogul Champs in Lengries, Germany, we got there and it was cancelled, the whole slope was expected to slide, not good, a weekend of skiing and visiting Salt Mines was on offer instead.  The Salt Mines weren't a punishment for Andy forgetting his race bib on the day of the first race, however, maybe it should have been!!

Injury and politics have affected the latter part of the season but things are all looking good to making World Cup Starts next season.

Our thanks go to Andy's Mum and Dad for putting up all the money for us to enjoy ourselves (yeah we did at times, you have to try, don't you!) TASS and not forgetting yourselves, SNO!zone,, Many thanks to all.

Jeff
GBR, England and Yorks and Humberside Moguls Coach.

28/04/2008 – Katie Summerhayes – Winter roundup

I competed in all of the British Snow Tour events, all these events went well, it was a great time and thoroughly enjoyable. I managed to get on the podium at all of them, apart from the skiercross events. which I only entered in age. The best results were:

Chatham Animal Slopestyle Championships - 1st Overall Women.
Norwich Tresspass Skiercross Championships - 1st Kids  Women.
Warmwell Quicksilver Big Air Championship - 1st Overall Women.
Castleford Animal Slopestyle Indoor Championships - 3rd Overall Women.
Milton Keynes Tresspass Indoor Skiercross Championships - 2nd Kids Women.
Glasgow Quicksilver Indoor Big Air Championships - 2nd Overall Women.

As well as these events I entered several others including KSM v Refrigerator where I was the Best Female Rider.

Into Decemeber and up came The North Face Challenge. This was a new event for me as it combined freeride and freestyle. It turned out to be a good chance to impress the judges from overseas, I came first and was invited to the finals in Val Thorens April 2008.

2008 was here and the Rip Curl Girls Tour at Milton Keynes was the first event, I came first and was delighted with the result.

Now all I had to wait for was the Brits 08, this was going to be my first year and it couldn't come fast enough. As it got closer I trained at Castleford and all the Grom Camps, finally it arrived and to make it even better it was dumping down at Laax.

Brits 08. What a great competition, the atmosphere was great and to be out on snow in a real fun park was amazing. I never wanted the week to end. I achieved my best results this week with 1st place Kids Women Halfpipe, 1st place Kids Women Slopestyle, 3rd Place Kids Women Skiercross (Molly, my younger sister beat me to 1st) and 1st place Kids Women Big Air. However my best result all week was the 2nd Overall Womens in the Big Air, I really enjoy this event and to get this result was amazing. A week I won’t forget for a long, long time.

The latest Event was the Final of The North Face Challenge, Val Thorens April 2008. My first International competition. One freeride event and then a slopestyle event. The freeride was a 750 ft off piste run, here I unfortunately lost a ski, but considering it was my first big freeriding event I was more than happy and then came the slopestyle. Only 3 practise runs and one scoring run was all we had. I gave it my best and had a good run with the marking showed I had come 2nd in this event. If I had not scored so badly in my freeride, a podium place was a possibility but not this year.

I am now back to training at Castleford and the Grom Camps and looking forward to The Snow Tour 2008.

22/04/2008 – James Woods - Woodsy's Winter Season

I've been travelling around quite a bit this winter season;

First off I went the World Cup halfpipe where I unfortunately took a hard stack in my run, so that was that - bit of a shame but I'll be back and ready for it next year!
Straight to Verbier for the 'Verbier Ride' - Slopestyle. I qualified for the final making my mark, but then continuing the seasons pattern I fell again in the final. Still taking 6th place out of 8 finalists, not too bad.
Next up, a trip to Morzine/ Avoriaz. Visiting mates and training hard I spent a week rippin' the Avoriaz, Croisets, and the Stash Parks there.
I returned to Morzine for another week prior to the Brits, where I managed to put my back out of action on the second day - Well Gutted! Spending the following week in Morzine all I could do was play videogames and get physio whilst watching the blue bird conditions and my chances in the Brits fading away.
After that seriously disappointing start to the season, I made my way to the Brits, injured and not able to walk properly. Not with high hopes you could say. However I met a friend who is a sports therapist and she managed to get me back on my skis and competing in the comps!       6th in the Pipe, 2nd in Slopestyle and 2nd Big Air, although my injury played havark with my pipe runs.
Most recently. I returned from Saas- Fee yesterday where I had been invited to the Salomon Jib Academy European Final. Stoked with the invitation to one of the biggest junior events in the world I rode without any pressure and enjoyed the contest immensely. Turns out I placed 5th, and I couldn't believe myself, I was truly over the moon and am still calming down.

So although it started off badly,  that has been my the best winter season for me and my riding so far, I hope you all had a great one also. I plan to do a season next year and hopefully get loads of training in with all of my friends, nice and ready for the years contests.

Have a good one,
Woodsy

21/04/2008 - Katie Ormerod – Big Medal Haul
Katie  has just returned from the Brits in Laax with another big medal haul. She won three golds in U14 slope style , half pipe , big air and silver in boarder X. Katie qualified in 5th  place overall in the open women’s slopestyle event narrowly missing a place in the women’s final which is a fantastic achievement.
Katie joined some of her SNO!zone colleagues the week before the Brits training with the McNab junior freestyle team. The results of this were plain to see during the competition week as she performed back to back 3s in the pipe, stomped solid airs and back side 3s on the slope style 12m kickers and hit the rails spinning 270 on and off with confidence and style.
Katie is now looking forward to the summer British Snowtour comps.

18/04/2008 – Laura Hill – Winter shred
Back from the Brits!
Having been training hard in the perfect parks of Keystone & Breckenridge and shooting with Will Bremridge & Josh Knox, it was time to return to Europe for the Brits. After some disappointment in the slopestyle I manged to get 3rd in the SNo!Zone  sponsored  Halfpipe event, which I was stoked with and really pleased for the champions Kate Foster and Dom Haro.

After the Brits the DC team and I drove to Innsbruck, to find it raining, so we had breakfast and left again. Missioned back through Switzerland, past Laax and to Chamonix to find it raining but at least snowing on the mountain. We battled it out for some shots for an upcoming Whitelines article, watch out! I'm currently back in the UK and managing to squeeze in a couple of Castleford shred sessions, airbag tonight! And am off again for the TSA shoot and boardtest next week.

Viva la Cas!
Laura

17/04/2008 – Martin Carr – Super Coach
It has been a busy few months. In January I was judging at the World Cup Freestyle Half Pipe comp in France and more recently at the Brits in Laax for the 4 competitions of Half Pipe, Slopestyle, Skier Cross & Big Air. During February I was coaching out in Germany for 2 Europa Cup moguls competitions.

Of course when I was not overseas I have been doing the usual Sunday moguls sessions at Castleford as well as Half Pipe at Sheffield.

Martin

17/04/2008 – Tyler Harding – Brits Gold
Tyler has just come back from the Brits 08 where he got Gold in Slopestyle (kids U/15), stomping 2 perfect technical runs which included a 1080 spin.  Gold in Big Air (kids U/15) - his first run, a stylie tweaked 360 mute followed by a 720 tweaked tail grab off the medium kicker.  He got  Silver in the
SNO!zone Halfpipe (kids U/15).
After a weeks rest he's now training for the Fear of the Park comp at Milton Keynes in May.  He's doing Lincoln loops, Rodeos, Switch mute 7s and 9s at Halifax, and refining his rail techniques at Cas.

28/03/2008 - Peter Handford-Styring - Moguls Coach
Back to some basic turns coaching as the speed training worked well.  Need to be sure that the turn quality doesn’t deteriorate!  The bumps at Castleford have been excellent, despite a couple of last minute modifications.  Numbers are increasing and we are getting more and more interest from the public.  They are realising it isn’t as easy as it looks!  I’ve been spending some time on the Halfpipe and Big Air at Sheffield trying to spin!  I broke my toe and damaged my right foot early in the month by dropping a 20 kg weight on it so my skiing has been a bit limited!  Therefore, rather than spinning (which hurts with a broken toe) I’ve been concentrating on the timing of my pops to get more air.

28/03/2008 - Hannah Jade Handford-Styring - Moguls
We were considering going to the British Moguls Championships in Germany but decided to give it an extra year.  Good decision!  They were cancelled at the last moment.  I’m now concentrating on getting ready for the new British season starting on 19 April at SNO!zone.  I have a slight problem that there is a Slalom at Sheffield on the same day that I need to compete in if I am to win the individual title!  It looks like I will have to ski at Sheffield in the morning and put in at least one individual run before heading up the motorway to practice for the Moguls event in the afternoon!  It can be done, honest!

I’ve got back to working on my spins and landed some good 360s.  I need to be able to put these into a moguls run eventually but be sure I can land them.

18/02/2008 - Peter Handford-Styring - Moguls Coach
We really upped the performance in our Sunday Moguls sessions.  A lot of speed work and a bit of psychology got the team really psyched.  We introduced Dual Moguls training in preparation for the British Champs in Germany.  A couple of short films published on YouTube and Facebook.  Planning a new film about teaching kids to snowboard using virtual reality simulators!

18/02/2008 - Hannah Jade Handford-Styring - Moguls
Now working on speed training.  Going really fast and now looking to pull it all together.  Did some Dual Moguls for the first time that were great but scary!  New skis are great!  Not doing Germany this year as my dad/coach thinks I should hold off until next year.  Planning to do some race training at SNO!zone to help me combine my speed and turns on snow.

25/01/2008 - Charlie Smith – Northstar News
Update on how things are going out here in Northstar, Lake Tahoe.

Well its snowing at the moment and probably for the next week. the snow parks out here are amazing theres so much to learn on everything and not enough hours in the day. plus they keep adding to it more and more jibs and boxes are being laid out everyday its awesome. My progression must have improved by at least 200% so im staying out here till march 17th cause my visa runs out and money is a bit short with not working out here. Also with the drinking age being 21 its helped me focus alot more on my skiing and concentrate on the weaker areas. My friend Joe Murrell and i are building up as much media footage and photos as we are filming for next seasons Ellis Brigham movie as well as builing up portfolios.

When i go home for march im thinking of heading out to the british championships on the 29th in laax, switzerland which will be good for more competition experience in a proper snow park. I've been doing a couple of local comps which have been awesome it really motivates me when i see the standard of the other competitors i go away knowing to pick up my game.

So all is good here hope everything is good with you guys at Cas.

19/01/08 – Will Smith – Back from Burton European Open
Just got back from the Burton European Open on Sunday it was well fun.
I got 19th in the pipe, it snowed a lot on pipe day so it was really hard.
I don't know what I got in the slopestyle because I hurt myself on the kickers in practice. It was really windy but I did my runs anyway and did ok on the rails and quarter but the kickers were massive.
The week before the Burton comp I was in Avoriaz. The park was amazing and the pipe was nice. There were so many Brits out there and I did some filming for Snowfix podcasts and an interview for channel 4.

I'll be in touch again soon
Thanks from Will.

14/01/2008 – Tyler Harding – Switch 900’s and 1080’s
Tylers been busy training for Laax in March. He's been doing switch 9s, and 1080's off the kicker at the Salomon grom camps at Rossendale, and 7's and 9's in the quarterpipe.  He's also working on adding more style to his rails, back flips and simpler tricks. He's been chomping at the bit waiting for the park to re-open at Cas.

11/01/2008 – Ben Parkes – Winter Plans
I've been skiing in France over the Christmas break aswell as the Xscape mogul sessions. I am planning over the winter to enter the Europa Cup mogul competitions in Germany and Russia as well as the British Champs in Germany. Aswell as a few weeks general skiing in France.
Ben

02/01/2008 – Laura Hill – Off To The Mountains
Here is my first of many Rider Update, as promised. I'm finally off to the mountains, 1 month in Breckenridge with fellow DC team. So there's not much to tell of so far, the Land Rover sessions and the Hull street session were rad and I was stoked to be involved. Other than that I've been trying to get over to Cas whenever possible and have done a few girls academies with Keita which is always good fun. I will be back for a bit in February and plans for trips are vague but definitely a team trip with DC and the Brits in March/April.

Oh yeh I won the Black Metal and came second in the Aim series. That seems like a long time ago!
More to come as and when it happens!
Laura

10/11/2007 - Hannah Jade Handford-Styring
Sponsored Rider: Moguls
Back to some serious training and competition this month. It was the second round of the Frostbite Slalom Series in Sheffield and also the Yorkshire Ski Federation (YSF) 2007 Moguls Championships at SNO!zone.
In training I’ve been working on my turns as these make up 50% of the competition score. Things have gone well and my line is getting tighter and tighter. I was happy with my British Championship performance where I got Bronze in the overall Ladies competition but I could have gone faster. So I’ve also been trying to up the speed through the rut line.
In the YSF Moguls I put in a good first run which left me in 10th place overall and just in 3rd place in the Ladies. In the final round I decided to go against advice from my coach and ski the rut line down to the smaller kicker but to up the speed. This worked well and I knocked half a second off my time and because I was going faster my turns got better.
I eventually finished 9th overall (behind Andy Longley) and 3rd in the Ladies. I got a really cool medal!
In the Frostbite I put in two of my fastest slalom times to win the Individual Slalom in the Girls Under 12s. That’s two wins in two races so I’m currently leading the event in my age group. There are two more rounds to go but it’s the best three results that count.
I’m lying 2nd in the Dual Slalom so I need to pick up a few more points there.
It’s important that I do Slalom and Moguls as each helps me with the other!

30/10/07 – Simon Foster
Comp results in 2007

Been filming for the upcoming UK snowboard film ‘thisISBritain’ by TSA and STANDINGsideways, produced and edited by Damian Doyle.
Also planning to make a Cas indoor film to show sum of the local riders. Prob going to be a 4 to 6 minute feature with me, Dean Horsfield, Mark Raper, Sam Turnbull, James Smith, Tom Hunt and Jamie Nicholls. Let you know more when it’s done.

Winter Plans
I’m going to do the Burton AM tour at Castleford and then going up to Braehead for the British Big Air then going out to Lake Tahoe in late November or early December.

Thats about it for now.
Peace. Si

30/10/2007 – Katie Ormerod – Get well soon
A bit of bad news Katie broke her arm competing in the Burton Scrap metal comp at the weekend. She was riding brilliantly all night spinning on rails riding switch on to rails etc. but unfortunately slammed on the step up barrel rail doing a switch frontside boardslide. It is not a serious break and she should be back in action in about three weeks time when the pot comes off. It was a real shame because Katie would have had a podium finish on her level of riding but the main thing is she is OK.

25/10/07 – Will Smith
It's Will just letting you know how things are going.

Thanks for putting me on SNO!zone this year, I was well chuffed. It was good laugh at Noeux Les Mines, France. Had a great time riding, I learned a few new tricks and in the end I finished up coming in 2nd place.
The kickers were great, you could get a lot of air off of them, Halifax's kicker feels so small now in comparison.

07/10/2007 – Andy Longley – Summer Success
This summer i have been competing on the british freeski tour.
At chatham I finished 1st overall in big air and 3rd overall in slopestyle.
At Norwich I finished 1st overall in skiercross.
At Warmwell I finished 3rd overall in big air.
This weekend i was competing in a quarterpipe competition at the Manchester Ski Show finishing 3rd overall and gained a lot of media exposure.

02/10/2007 - Charlie Smith
I went to Chatham on the 16th September which was the slopestlye championships in the big air i made it through to the final 8 where i fell on my runs which wasn't sooo successful and in the slopestyle i came third in under 18s and 4th overall missing the podium spot by .4 of a mark, although im happy as it was a dryslope event because i compete better on snow.
I went to Warmwell (Dorset) on the Sunday just gone, the slope was running super slow but i managed to pick up the best under 18 in the rail jam and best overall just before my heel piece ripped out, think my core is damp or something so i couldn’t compete in the big air but im stoked on that result too.
Next up this weekend is slopestyle championships at Castleford which is where i do most of my skiing cant wait for this one its where i feel most comfortable.
